Playing Sonja Allure

Songs that get me into Sonja's headspace.

(Yeah, Sonja is kinda' a weirdo)

Strengths & Weaknesses

It can help other characters to know what they might (and might not) call on Sonja to help with.

Sonja is quick and agile. She's damn good looking and naturally charismatic. She's an accomplished musician and exceptionally talented at dealing with animals of all stripes. Mostly, she's gotten by on her looks, though she's picked up a little here and there and can read people. She can tell a lie or a really good story. Her biggest weakness is science and technology. She can work a smartphone because, really, who can't? But computers are mostly out of her bailiwick - don't ask her how she knows the word "bailiwick." The entirety of her education has been at the foot of another Bastet. She spent less than six years in school. She's clever, but uneducated.

She also isn't very good at being intimidating. Even striding around her preserve with a massive pistol strapped to her thigh, she's more interesting than intimidating.

Goals, Plans, & Dreams

Ambition(s) - These are long-term goals; what I want to do with my life (5-10 year goals).

  • Expand the Preserve. Sonja wants to acquire some of the land surrounding Urban Safari so there's room to grow. Even if we're not playing with that Yava, she knows she will get the urge to go at some point, and she wants everything to be in order when she does.
  • Train Up Assistants. To that end, she's training a few assistants she thinks will be able to take over. Intending to choose who becomes the new owner when the time comes.
  • (Locate a Possible Mate). Sonja isn't actually "on the prowl"; but I think the time she's spent with the preserve and living a semi-settled-down life, have started to wind up her biological clock, and she may be thinking about a child (as she gets closer to 30, I imagine that becoming imperative, but who knows - she isn't necessarily straight and who knows what she's even thinking when she decides she does want a child).

Desires - Things I want to do now / short-term plans (<1 year goals).

  • Dance, Sing, and Be Merry. Sonja's people danced with faeries and ancient kings - she's a party girl at heart, and is always looking for a good time. She plays up her Gallant Demeanor as much for the sheer joy of being alive as for the attention it brings.
  • Go and See Cats Ever since she first saw it with her Kuasha in New York, one of Sonja's favorite things to do is to get drunk and see a live performance of Cats, the Musical, and laugh her ass off. Whenever a tour comes to a nearby city, she tries to go. It sometimes leads to her leaving, though.

Roleplaying Hints

  • You hate cages with animals in them, which is why your preserve is an open-plan. You know the cats would die if they were set free, so console yourself that they're better off with you than on their own, but open a cage if you see an animal caught in one.
  • Your caregiver nature tends to show itself in the tendency to "mother" those around you once she gets to know them - you're quite standoffish around strangers because of her natural tendency to look after your friends and allies and how that can be taken advantage of.
  • Revel in your fame, or what little of it there is. Milk that 15 minutes for all its worth, and hold no reservations about drawing attention at work or at play - on the dance floor or at the grocery store. I'm picturing Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but with less murder - early season 3 Faith.
  • Face your problems head-on. No mucking about in the shadows, if you can avoid it. See problem, find solution, solve problem. End of. And no cowering or whimpering about insurmountable odds. That shit's for the solitude of home. Keep it to yourself. You can do anything.
  • You're going to leave at some point (even if that's beyond the scope of the game). You're going to feel that pull and just walk away. Revel in the relationships you have now. Enjoy every moment you can share with these people, because you might not even miss them when you're gone. Out of all the friendships you've had and friend-groups you've been a part of, you can remember - maybe - less than a half-dozen people you wish you could bring yourself to reconnect with. So make the most of it now, because now is all that really counts.
  • You're pretty much above labels when it comes to sexuality; but you're basically pansexual. You have a "type", of course - whatever you want to play - but the character was created with a draw toward the masculine feminine; but be open for a tangle with anyone who isn't boring.
